Isolation of a Céleste Boursier-Mougenot Pool (September 2007, Quicktime, 4:00, 64.4 MB)
Concept: This video was filmed at the Philadelphia Institute of Contemporary Art during their fall 2007 exhibit Ensemble, a collection of sound art curated by Christian Marclay. Céleste Boursier-Mougenot's Untitled (series #3): 5,6,7 was the quitest piece in the room, so I decided to take a close listen.

Execution: I carried out the exercise for 35 minutes, which is the length of the full version of this video. Audio was recorded using a Marantz PMD671 solid state digital recorder with an Audio-Technica AT835 shotgun mic.

The above is an embedded Flash video. Mouseover for video controls.

Freud Association Map (February 2006, PDF, 16 KB)
Concept: Growth of a branching language tree from a single seed word (in this case, "Freud").

Execution: Paths move from the center out. Links are signified by adjacency and a decrease in font size. For example, "Freud" progresses to "H.D." (Hilda Doolittle, one of Sigmund Freud's patients), which moves in turn to "Lofting" (owing to the surname shared by the imagist poet and Hugh Lofting's famed fictional veterinarian), and so forth. A specific association exists between each set of linked entities.

First Four Cars (April 2005, mp3, 2:09, 1.5 MB)

Concept: An edit of a recording made from a Japanese online shortwave feed, using only truncated cuts and looping.

Execution: Created in Adobe Audition for Windows.

This March, this track will appear on the CD accompanying the Outside Voices 2008 Anthology of Younger Poets.
